Abstract
The main objective of this paper was to determine and the analyze trend change in number of medals won at the Olympics and Paralympics Games from 2008 to 2020 by Serbian Olympic Team. This work is an extension and further analize which was based on the work by Ivanović (2020a), who analyzed and determined the trend change in number of medals won at the Olympics and Paralympics Games from 2008 to 2020. For the purposes of the analysis, data from the official website of the Olympics Games (www.olympic.org) were used, as well as from the periodical “The Results of Serbian Athletes” published by the Serbian Institute of Sport and Sports Medicine. The analysis used data obtained from the participation and medals won from the previous four Olympics Games held in Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, i.e. since the Republic of Serbia in an independent state. The results of the analysis showed that the trend changes of the monitored indicators have still significant positive increasing in the number of medals won at the level of almost 2 (1.5) medals on average compared at the four held Olympic Games so far. The results of the defined regression analysis have shown high predictive potential for increase in the number of medals won (R2 = 0.280, F = 5.4277, p = 0.023). Based on the defined models of trend changes and if positive trend continue, it can be expected that Serbian athletes with the 93.08% of probability would conquer 10 to 11 medals at the next Olympic Games which will take place in Paris in 2024.
